Frequently asked questions

Some things you may want to know and understand

What is survival swimming and why is it different to traditional swim schools?

The most essential survival swimming skill we will teach your child is to roll from a face-down position in the water to a face-up independent back float. Infants and toddlers cannot raise their heads to take a breath. If your child falls face down into the water, knowing how to roll onto a face-up back float can save a life!

A complete course of private lessons requires 6 weeks for toddlers aged 1-3 years or 3 weeks for 4+ year olds. Each lesson for children under 4 years are 10 minutes long. Lessons for 4+ year olds are 20 minutes long. Roll over breathing is a technique that many schools and learn-to-swim teachers don’t attempt, because it takes time, skill and patience.

After completing the course, will my child be safe and know how to survive if they fall in the pool?

Upon completion of the course your child will be able to swim and independently roll over onto their back in a survival float. However, like any skill that is learnt, we encourage students to continue their progress in group classes, which allows them to retain their skills, gain confidence, develop a love of swimming, and progress into stroke development.

Must I get into the water with my child?

No. Our goal for your child is to establish a relationship of trust between your child and the instructor. Once this occurs, your child will learn to trust him/herself in the water and real progress begins. We encourage parents to watch lessons and provide support by praising their children for learning new skills.

What if my child has a fear of water or refuses to put their face into the water?

We teach one-on-one lessons so we can quickly work through and address any fears or concerns your child may have. Consistency is key, to alleviate anxiousness, fear & unfamiliarity. As a result, your child will evolve from being completely helpless & scared, to being confident and capable of saving his or her own life in weeks, not years.

What if I miss a lesson?

If your child has a fever, tummy bug or vomiting, they need to refrain from swimming, but if it is a runny nose or allergies, they can still swim. We will try to accommodate 1 week of make-up lessons should you have a doctor’s note. These lessons may or may not be with the same instructor. Our busy schedule unfortunately will not allow for more than that.

After paying my deposit, when will the balance be due?

The balance is due in the second week of the course duration.

How many children are in a group maintenance lesson?

Groups are limited to 3 kids. Once your child starts the 4 stroke development classes, the number of kids per group will vary.

Can my older child join group classes if they have not done the swim safe course?

We offer group classes for our students who have completed the swim safe course and are able to swim, roll onto their back to float, and turn over to swim in deep water. Your child can be assessed by one of our instructors. We will look to see if they are able to swim unassisted across a pool with no floatation device & independently roll onto their back to breathe. We can then look at adding them to a group on their level.

Can I bring my child on Saturdays and Sundays to do the swim safe course?

The Swim safe course lessons are from Monday -Thursday only. Once your child completes the course, they can move over to group maintenance lessons which run from Monday – Friday and Saturday mornings.

Why Are Your Lessons More Expensive than Others?

Keep in mind, that you are buying private lessons for your child. Instead of your child being one of many, depending on the student / teacher ratio, our lessons are one-on-one with your child and the instructor only. With our undivided attention, in just 3 – 6 weeks, your child will have a fighting chance to survive an aquatic accident, along with the fundamental skills to safely enjoy the water. No other program can come close to what we can teach your child in a matter of weeks. We encourage you to shop around, but compare the results achieved and the time frame involved, as much as pricing.
